Ophena Magnetic Stirrups
These stirrups by Ophena are so beautifully designed. I can't take my eyes off of them.
And I’m sure I’m not the only one!
They are different from anything that I've seen on the market.
So, if you're just as curious about these stirrups as I am then keep reading and we'll learn more about them together!
The Design
I love how they designed the metal to look so round and fluid. Not to mention the lack of the outside bar! These stirrups are no doubt eye catching. It's almost as if Ophena designed a piece of art instead of piece of equipment that riders will use on a daily basis. It's safe to say that they’ll definitely pique the interest of other riders at the barn.
I am a big fan of the look of the Ophena magnetic stirrups. I’ve always been drawn to things that are different. Things that very few people have. Things that are unique and have a classy design.
So, when it comes to the look of these stirrups, they tick all of the right boxes for me.
Okay, so let's move past the look of these stirrups for a second.
There's actually quite a bit of tech behind the Ophena magnetic stirrups.
There's a reason why they've been created to look this way.
They were designed to be the ultimate safety stirrup.
They eliminated the outer bar so that riders won't get their foot caught during a fall. They wanted to create something that will lower the chances of riders being dragged or twisting their ankles.
I mean. Let's face it. Falls are going to happen. It's a part of our sport. But a fall can quickly become horrific within seconds if your equipment works against you.
This is why Ophena designed a stirrup that won't hold onto your foot. They are trying to minimise those bad situations from happening.
So, how do you prevent your foot from sliding around when you're riding if these stirrups don't have that outside bar?
That's where the magnetic part comes in.
Ophena designed insoles to put in your riding boots. These insoles, as well as the stirrups themselves, are magnetised. So, when you put your foot in the stirrup, they'll link together. You'll never loose your stirrups unless you fall or you purposefully separate your boot and the stirrups from each other (like when you want to dismount).
Also, you know those times when you jump a fence awkwardly and you almost loose your stirrup on the landing? (I know that I’ve been in those situations more than a few times!) Well, I don't think you would have to worry about that with these stirrups.
If I were to guess, I would say that the Ophena S's are made from stainless steel although I can't really find anything online to confirm that. They only come in the silver colour and will cost you USD $279.20.
The website does say though that the Ophena T's are made of titanium. You have three colours to choose from for this model; silver, gold and black. The price of the Ophena T's is USD $719.20.
What's nice is that the insoles are sold with the stirrups. Regardless if you choose the Ophena S or the Ophena T.
Now, keep in mind that Ophena will only supply you with one pair of insoles when you buy the stirrups. So, if you have more than one pair of riding boots, you'll have to buy additional insoles. This will cost you USD $39.20 for each pair.
Though I don't own my own pair and I've never tried them myself, I would imagine that there would be a bit of a learning curve when using these stirrups. Especially when mounting and dismounting your horse. But I don't think it would take too long before you got the hang of it.
Granted, the Ophena magnetic stirrups are not the cheapest stirrups on the market. But, when you look at all of the tech and design that are in these stirrups, would you honestly expect them to cost you $50?
They do fall in the same price range as those other high-tech stirrups that are on the market right now. So, if you're willing to spend that amount of money on your stirrups, these may be a great option for you. Especially since they offer you a 60-day money back guarantee.
As for me, I'll admire them from afar for right now.
I'd love to give them a shot, but they just don't fit in the budget right now.
I'd love to know what you think about the Ophena stirrups. Leave your opinions in the comments below.
Until next time, happy riding!
