Brand Spotlight: Kentucky Horsewear

Kentucky Horsewear is a brand that has caught my eye for a while now. Not only because of their beautiful product photography but also for the products themselves. I swear Instagram must keep track of how many images I’ve liked because they’re always on my feed. Whether from Kentucky Horsewear’s Instagram account or other tack shops featuring their products on the app. So I thought I’d share some of my favourite things today.

Before we jump in, I’d also like to mention that Kentucky Horsewear is an animal-friendly brand. Meaning that they use faux sheepskin, artificial rabbit skin and imitation leather. It’s nice to see a brand that makes products for animals refuse to use materials made by other animals. This is something that I wish more equestrian brands would decide to do too. We all love our animals. So it doesn’t really make sense to harm other animals to equip our horses. You can learn more about the materials that Kentucky Horsewear uses here.

But let’s talk about some of their products!

Saddle Pads

Kentucky Horsewear’s saddle pads may not be as vibrant or trendy as some other brands. But if I’m honest, I prefer it that way. Though some other brands have some stunning colours to choose from, it can make them a bit difficult to use every day. (Unless you’re the type of rider that enjoys coordinating their outfits for a matchy-matchy look. And there’s nothing wrong with that.)

For me, I am not opposed to a bit of colour but I do like a more muted look. So Kentucky Horsewear’s colour selection works great for me. I also really appreciate them experimenting with different fabrics and finishes. For example, the velvet and the corduroy pads are so different from what’s typically on the market. Their wool and leather edition pads are also just as eye-catching but less trendy than the other pads I mentioned. They’re perfect for someone who would want a saddle pad that’s different from a standard cotton pad but doesn’t want to be too daring. (The olive green leather edition pad is probably my favourite pad from Kentucky Horsewear. But so many of them are huge contenders!)

Sheets and Rugs

When I think of Kentucky Horsewear, the first products I think about are their blankets (or rugs). Especially their show and stable rugs. I love the classic colours that they chose and the faux sheepskin around the neckline. They also feature a faux rabbit skin lining. This helps prevent any rub marks or hair loss. The lining also has tiny air pockets that retain body heat. The faux rabbit skin also helps polish the horse’s coat. Which is something that no horse owner will complain about.

They also carry riding and quarter sheets. Allowing your horse’s back to stay warm during those cool rides. The one featured in this post is a fleece riding rug but they also have other materials to choose from. Including a waterproof option.

Other Equipment

Kentucky Horsewear makes other products too. For example, their faux sheepskin half pads. I personally like the look of a sheepskin half pad. So knowing that this one isn’t made with real sheepskin is a definite bonus. Their half pads come in either natural, black or brown. The pad itself is black and made with 5 layers of shock absorption while still being thin. As an added bonus, it’s also machine washable (just don’t put it in the dryer).

Their leather boots are also machine washable believe it or not. That’s because the imitation leather is also waterproof. They also claim that their leather is durable, so it shouldn’t be prone to brush or hoof marks. Meaning you can buy a product that not only looks nice but is functional and durable.

And let’s not forget their tiny collection! Whether you have a mini or you just want to scroll through their promotional pictures, I’d recommend you check out this collection. I would imagine that owning such tiny equines that it can be difficult to find products that fit them sometimes. Luckily, Kentucky Horsewear hasn’t forgotten about the little ones. Many of their great products are available in tiny sizes.
