Brand Spotlight: SaluS
Sometimes riders need that extra assistance. And that’s okay!
The problem with most magnetic stirrups is that they can be expensive. It also means that you need to switch up your gear in some way. Well, for most magnetic stirrup solutions anyway.
I received an email from the owner of SaluS recently. David Coallier created a stirrup attachment that allows you to have the benefits of magnetic stirrups without having to get rid of the gear you already have.
It’s pretty simple really. The SaluS attachments are bands that wrap around your already beloved stirrup irons and boots. So, if you currently own an expensive set of Flex On or Free Jump stirrups, they don’t need to be discarded just because you want the added benefits of magnets.
I could see the SaluS being beneficial for many equestrians. For those that ride horses that stop suddenly, spook or buck. For those who ride horses that pop over jumps awkwardly. And for riders that ride horses that can be a little unpredictable. The SaluS would even benefit riders that need to pick up their heel a little bit more to give their horse a firmer aid. Sometimes changing your foot and leg position in those moments will change your stirrup position too. There are many moments when unexpected things may modify your foot position in the stirrup. Having that magnetized component would allow riders that extra stability. It would allow them to regroup a bit more quickly and carry on with the task at hand.
Now, don’t get me wrong. If a rider cannot keep their stirrups in the correct position because they are riding incorrectly, I don’t think that buying any sort of magnetic stirrup is the right answer. I think that training that rider to ride correctly is how that should be approached. But there are times when things happen, even to the best of riders, and the stirrup position is altered. These are the situations where I think that the magnetic technology is useful. It should be used as a backup tool for added stability. Not as a crutch to avoid fixing a rider’s bad habit.
An artificial aid for the rider shouldn’t be any different from an artificial aid for the horse. You wouldn’t use a whip as your first aid to get the horse to move forward. The whip would be the last aid you would use. The same thought process should be applied to magnetic stirrups.
I decided that I would include the promotional video from SaluS so that you can see their product in motion. The bands are discreet enough that they don’t draw too much attention to themselves. Which is an additional bonus.
SaluS is a new brand that is currently still in the prototype phase. However, David Coallier did mention during our conversation that SaluS will be going into the production phase in a few weeks.
