Ariat Breeze Half Chaps Review
Buying a decent pair of half chaps can be quite the struggle. You want them to be stylish yet comfortable. They need to be soft while still keeping their shape. And you definitely want them to last!
Whether you're planning on using them for lessons or for show (or both!), you want your money to be spent wisely. That's why I thought I'd share what I thought of my purchase of the Ariat Breeze half chaps.
If you've been reading my blog for a while, you'll know that I had written a post a while back about my struggles in finding brown chaps (you can read that post here). Even though I was a little discouraged, I didn't want to give up on finding new brown leather chaps for my Ariat paddock boots that I have had for years.
With a little online research, I found a tack shop in the Toronto area that carried several different styles of brown chaps. So, we took a drive over to see if they could help me out.
When looking on their website, I had it in my mind that I was going to get the Tredstep DeLuxe Half Chap. I loved the look of them, especially the way it went higher around the outside of the knee like the tall boots do. They didn't have my size in the brown so I tried the black ones for the fit. I'm not going to lie, they were nice. The leather was soft and they fit great. My only concern (other than my size not being in stock) was that they might fall as they settle like some tall boots do.
So, the helpful sales associate offered me to try the Ariat Breeze half chaps. I'll be honest, seeing them in the bag, I thought they were a step down from the Tredstep ones. I didn't like the look of the elastic and thought that they were too casual looking. But since I am a fan of Ariat products, I decided to try them on and I'm so glad I did.
These chaps are so nice on. The leather is soft and I never had to break them in. To my surprise, I really liked the elastic band. It allowed the chap to hug my leg without restricting my movement. Also, it doesn't look as casual on as it did in the bag. Being that my paddock boots were also from Ariat, the colours of the leather matched beautifully which is an added bonus.
The Breeze chap, though it doesn't curve up the knee, is quite a tall chap. It isn't like some chaps where they are meant to stop well below the knee. Another added feature is that these chaps are apparently washable. For me, I think I'll stick to my normal routine of cleaning my chaps with saddle soap... just to be safe.
Overall, Ariat's Breeze half chaps are great. They are definitely something I would recommend to anyone on the market for new chaps. Though they may be not the best option for the show ring, they are an awesome option for around the barn.
If you're already a fan of Ariat, the Breeze half chaps won't disappoint you.
Until next time, happy riding!
