Do What You Like, Like What You Do
The slogan "Do What You Like, Like What You Do" from the company Life is good couldn't be more true. I don't think any of us should be involved with horses (or other things) if we don't enjoy it. The best kind of work is the kind that doesn't make you feel like you are working.
There is something special about a bond between you and a horse. It makes you want to muck out his stall and spend as much time as you can with him. You can't have a bond with a horse, however, if you don't enjoy being around him or spending time with him. It takes some time and effort to establish a good, strong relationship.
If someone is interested in an equine sport because of the money or status, they've missed the point. Unless they decide to change their way of thinking, they won't be as successful as they can be both in and out of the saddle. The same goes for those who might decide to own a stable. If they don't care about the well-being of their horses and only care about the cash in their pockets, chances are their horses and customers may suffer the consequences.
Sure there can be good money in the equine world, but that doesn't mean that you should jump into it. Not only will you possibly never reach your full potential, you also may never enjoy what you do. We all have special talents and skills. That's what makes us enjoy doing some things more than others. You shouldn't find yourself forcing through every day and not enjoying yourself. Just because your current job or hobby may be a great opportunity, doesn't mean that it's always the right fit for you. You should enjoy what you do. If you have the chance to change into something better, then take it. Don't waste your precious time and energy on something that isn't enjoyable for you.
Granted, some things won't be as pleasant as others, like mucking a stall or fixing fences. But if you would rather fix a fence than sit behind a desk in a corporate office, that's usually a good sign that you are in the right place. What's great about the equine industry that isn't always available to other industries is the reward. There's nothing quite like seeing your horse happy and progressing well after a long days work. Saddling up and going for a ride at the end of a day can be the best way to unwind. Not to mention the fact that you always get a big, grateful "thank you" from the horses every day.
Sometimes all you need is a little break. We all loose our passion and drive sometimes and all we need is to recharge. Sometimes we get lost in our day-to-day routine that we have forgotten why we enjoy what we do. Some of us may need to find a completely new setting and have a fresh new start. Whatever it may be, it's important to do what you like and like what you do.
So that is it for this week. Though it may not be as informative as other posts, I hope this has made you reflect a little. Are you enjoying what you are doing? Is there a way you can change that, whether it be a big or a small change, if you aren't?
I apologise that this post was not published as early as they usually are on Fridays. I was having a little bit of a problem with Blogger today. Nonetheless, thank you for reading and I wish you all a wonderful weekend.
Until next time, happy riding!
